We have been awarded as Co-Winners for our Green Lungs Project in Hanoi, spanning 330 hectares.
The Green Lung Project in Hanoi is an innovative urban development initiative. Specifically, it aims to harmonize urban life with nature, addressing the challenges of rapid urbanization. As a result, the project emerges from intensive collaboration among a multidisciplinary team. Led by Multiply Office Architects and Oddo Architects, this team includes both local and international experts from various fields such as architecture, urban planning, sustainability, sociology, and economics.
A Collaborative and Global Approach
The team successfully combines local insights with international experience, which provides them with a deep understanding of Hanoi’s unique context. Moreover, they draw inspiration from lessons learned in successful projects from cities like Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, and Seoul. These cities have demonstrated that integrating green spaces, cultural venues, and recreational areas into urban environments can significantly improve quality of life. In addition, such integration boosts economic development and enhances social vibrancy. Therefore, the Green Lung Project aims to bring these same benefits to Hanoi, positioning the city as a model for sustainable urban growth. This growth will strike a balance between environmental preservation and urban expansion.
Key Feature: The Ecological Park
At the heart of the Green Lung Project is an expansive ecological park. This park will serve as both a sanctuary for biodiversity and a recreational space for the community. Not only will it provide ecological benefits, but it will also restore the environment and foster cultural exchanges, education, and social interactions. In essence, it will become a vibrant, multifunctional space where urban activities and natural environments coexist harmoniously.
Two Interconnected Zones
The project is structured around two interconnected zones: the Cultural Village and the Natural Zone.
The Cultural Village: Covering 30 hectares, this area will house cultural institutions, creative spaces, and business infrastructure. In doing so, it will support Hanoi’s creative industries and entrepreneurial growth. Additionally, the Cultural Village will provide ample space for public gatherings, cultural events, and activities, establishing it as a key social and cultural destination within the city.
The Natural Zone: Spanning over 300 hectares, this zone will focus primarily on ecological restoration. It will also provide space for outdoor activities that cater to people of all ages. By doing so, the Natural Zone will help restore biodiversity, enhance public health, and provide a sustainable green space within the urban fabric.
A New Model for Urban Development
The Green Lung Project introduces an innovative model for urban development. This model prioritizes ecological restoration, community engagement, and sustainable growth. Designed for flexibility, the project will evolve over time, progressing through both short-term and long-term phases. This adaptability will allow the project to meet Hanoi’s changing needs while maintaining its commitment to environmental preservation and fostering social vibrancy.
